At Long Last, They Are Connected
The long-anticipated connection between the Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT) and the High Trestle Trail has marked a significant milestone in Iowa's trail system. This achievement was celebrated on Saturday, August 17, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together community members, local officials, and cycling enthusiasts. The event commemorated the completion of the connector trail, which now links two of Iowa's most popular recreational trails.
Raccoon River Valley Trail Closure
The Raccoon River Valley Trail Lighted Bridge that crosses the Raccoon River on the east side of Adel will be closed for bridge rehabilitation, which includes: deck, railings, and infrastructure upgrades along with some bridge approach paving. This work will begin possibly as early as July 22, 2024. It is anticipated that this work will require the bridge to be closed up through approximately mid-October. During this closure, there will be no access across this bridge.

Nationally recognized as an exceptional rails-to-trails conversion, the Raccoon River Valley Trail features a 72-mile loop within 89 miles of multi-use recreational trail. As the longest paved loop trail in the nation, it connects 14 central Iowa communities to offer outdoor recreationists a unique experience with every visit.
